HIGH HAZARD INDUSTRIES- IS YOURS ON THE LIST?

In addition to enforcement, California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal-OSHA) has other divisions.  Of special interest to construction are the High Hazard Units. There is a northern and southern California unit.
Every year the High Hazard Unit develops a list of industry sectors that have experienced accidents involving restricted or lost workdays that is above the California average.  The annual High Hazard Industry List is based on “days away, restricted or transferred” (DART) rates for private sector employers.

Employers in high hazard industries may be subject to an inspection by High Hazard Unit.
The 2019-2020 High Hazard Industry List is effective July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2020. You might be targeted for an inspection due to your industry; it doesn’t matter if your company had accidents or not.  It’s a random selection based on industry.

Check the list here.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

If your industry is on the list, call the Cal-OSHA Consultation office for your location.
Consultation is a free service.  You must agree to correct any hazards noted, but Consultation does not issue citations, fines or penalties.
Consultation and Enforcement are completely separate programs. Consultation does not share information with Cal/OSHA Enforcement.
A Consultation inspection shields you from a High Hazard Inspection for 6 months.
Once you receive your written report from Consultation, contact M.R.S. OSHA Safety, Inc and we will assist you with compliance.
